It's going to be a good 2017 with Visual Studio
2017
2016 was a big year for Microsoft developers. We
saw good work from Microsoft – the 3 biggest items
for SSW are:
-
Microsoft extending support to non-Microsoft
platforms.
NET Core allows .NET apps to be run on Windows,
OSX and Linux.
You can now also build .NET apps to run on
Windows, OSX and Linux with the release of
Visual Studio Code and Visual Studio for Mac.
This works so well that some of the guys in the
SSW office are now developing solely on a Mac!
The most important reason we are embracing
.NET Core is it is *500% FASTER*
-
Embraced tools from other platforms like Docker,
Gulp and NPM
Most of our new web projects start with Angular
and use
Angular CLI
or Webpack which you can get from NPM
-
Focus on cross platform mobile development with
the purchase of Xamarin (native), updates to
Apache Cordova (hybrid) and updates to UWP
(Win10 platforms)
There's a lot to be excited about, plus much more.
Keep reading to find out what else is new
and
exciting with the release of Visual Studio
2017.

Session #1: Developing Intelligent Apps with
Power BI Embedded – Peter Myers
You may well be familiar with Microsoft's
cloud-based Business Intelligence service
named Power BI. In this presentation, you
will learn about a new Azure service which
enables the embedding of Power BI reports
into apps.
Power BI Embedded
effectively enables app developers to embed
fully interactive reports into their apps,
without requiring the time and expense of
having to build controls from the ground up.
This presentation will introduce the service
and describe its capabilities backed by
theory and lots of demonstrations. Specific
topics will describe how to develop Power BI
reports, how to leverage custom visuals, how
to effectively secure data, and how to embed
reports with intelligent behaviours and
actions by using the bidirectional
JavaScript API.
This presentation is specifically targeted
at app developers.
